When you are working with a moving company, there are many things you can do to make the move more successful, whether you are moving across town or across the country. On moving day, there are some simple etiquette that can go a long way that we at Prodigy Moving & Storage would like to share today.
Let Movers Work
Help your movers by letting them do what they were trained to do. Though you may think you know the best approach, you hired professionals for a reason. They know and have experience with the best methods and techniques to ensure your stuff is moved safely. Micromanaging only makes the movers stressed and on edge.
Pack Before Moving Day
If you paid for the full service, they will get the packing done for you, but if not, be sure to have ready to avoid wasting time and money.
Movers Aren’t Responsible for Valuables
Keep prescriptions, jewelry, cash and personal documents. Professionals will not be responsible for valuables or important documents and will include them in a non-allowable list and ultimately, it is safer for you to keep them on your person during the move.
Moving Box Labels
Label each box with contents and their intended room. To help your movers unload more efficiently and save you the hassle of playing traffic director, have each box labeled with which room it belongs in. This tactic helps expedite the process and makes the move a lot smoother.
Mark Fragile Items when Moving
While you are labeling boxes, be sure to note if the items are especially fragile or make sure the movers know. Unless the fragile items are known, they are not going to differentiate which boxes are fragile from the ones that are not.
Provide Movers Parking & Access
Make sure the movers know the best access your apartment, and if there are any time limitations on parking or moving hours and where they can park. You do not want poor preparation to result in a parking ticket. Be sure your house has a safe clear path to avoid accidents.
Don’t Pack Large Cardboard Boxes Too Heavy
Large boxes with heavy items makes the box too heavy to maneuver. Heavy things should be dispersed in smaller boxes to keep the boxes easier to move and to also withstand the weight and avoid them breaking out of the bottom while they are being carried.
Furniture Disassembly
The heavier things are the more at risk they are for causing harm or even being damaged. Make sure to lighten the load and remove the contents from the drawers in all the furnishings are emptied and packed accordingly. In many cases the best options for a move is to break down the furniture, label and keep hardware in a baggie, pictures can help with reassembly.
