What is the Best Way to Pack Plates, Glasses & Other Fragile Items for Moving in Cerritos, CA?

You can have the best plan possible for your cross country move and still have things that you did not think of pop up. Some homeowners remember to schedule their moving truck but forget to schedule their utilities to be turned off in their home. Some people remember to turn off their utilities but forget to get large boxes for their electronics. Remembering everything seems like an impossible feat! One thing that some of our customers forget is to come up with a plan for how to properly pack all of their fragile items. Prodigy Moving & Storage would like to help you pack your fragile items by giving you some ideas on how to pack them so you do not find them broken when you arrive at your new location.

Packaging Guidelines – Supplies for Fragile Items

The first step is to make sure that you have a good workplace set up to pack fragile items. You will want to get your workplace set up with the proper packing materials. You will need a permanent market, packing tape, scissors, pliable cardboard, bubble wrap, newspaper, packing paper, packing peanuts, and sturdy boxes. When you are packing fragile items we recommend that you do not pack too much in each box so that you can avoid having any items break during the move. If you need to purchase any of these items your local moving supply store or office supply store are good places to go. When you buy bubble wrap there are products on the market that are made specifically for dishes and other items if you would like to consider using them.

How Do You Pack Fragile Items?

Once you have your supplies gathered you can begin packing. Here are some tips for different fragile items that you may need to pack.
• Plates: To pack plates you have a few different options. You can purchase bubble wrap made especially for plates or you can cut bubble wrap off of a roll. Some people also use newspaper to pack their glass plates. We recommend storing your plates vertically inside of your box. Packing your plates vertically reduces the risk of breakage during your move.
• Glasses: Newspaper and tape will be needed to pack your glasses. Wrap each glass with newspaper then tuck the paper inside the glass as well and tape it in place. Glassware is smaller than other kitchen items but it is frequently heavier when you begin stacking it. We recommend using a small or medium double wall box to pack your glasses in. If you layer glasses inside the box put the heaviest glasses at the bottom and put a piece of pliable cardboard in between each layer.
• Lamps: To pack a lamp the first thing that you want to do is take the lampshade off of your lamp. Your shade should be packed with the flat side down. The base of your lamp should be packed vertically in your box. You will want to pad all around the base of the lamp with newspaper. Do not set anything on top of the shade or the base of the lamp.
• Picture Frames: For your large picture frames we recommend purchasing boxes that are made for decorations. These boxes make it easy to wrap your pictures in bubble wrap and simply slip them into the box. Some of your picture frames will be too big to go in a box. For those carefully wrap them in bubble wrap. You will want to make sure that you do not stack boxes on top of your decoration boxes when you pack your moving truck.
